1. 引導時間狀語從句的連詞

  (1) when

  Her father died when she was young. 她很小的時候父親就死了。

  I'll write when I have finished the book. 我把書看完了再寫信。

  (2) while

  Make hay while the sun shines. 行事要趁機會好;未雨綢繆。

  Brent felt chilly while he was walking. 布倫特走著時感到有些涼意。

  (3) as

  As he slept he dreamed a dream. 他睡覺時做了一個夢。

  As I was coming here, I met your brother. 我來這里時碰到了你哥哥。

  (4) before

  We can't possibly finish this before the rains start. 雨季開始前我們不可能干完這活兒。

  Long before you return, she will have forgotten you. 在你回來前，她會早已把你忘了。

  (5) after

  Soon after she returned, the child vomited. 她回來不久孩子就吐了。

  After we had finished tea, we all sat on the grass. 我們喝完茶后，都在草地上坐著。

  I will tell them after you leave / have left. 你走了之后我再告訴他們。

  (6) until

  I watched him until he disappeared from sight. 我望著他直到他看不見了。

  I shall stay until I've completed my studies. 我要在這里待到我學習結束為止。

  (7) till

  Let's wait till the rain stops. 咱們等到雨停吧。

  I'll keep it for you till you come back. 我將替你把這保存到你回來。

  (8) since

  Two weeks had passed since Martin had seen him. 自從馬丁見到他，已經過了兩個禮拜。

  I haven't seen you since I have been back. 我回來后就一直沒見到你。

  (9) whenever

  Whenever I see him, I speak to him. 每當我見到他，我都和他講話。

  I go to the theatre whenever I get the chance. 一有機會我就去看戲。

  (10) 一些其他類型的時間狀語從句

  Hardly had he arrived when she started complaining. 他剛一到，她就開始發牢騷。

  Now that we are alone, we can speak freely. 現在我們單獨在一起，可以隨便談了。

  引導條件狀語從句的連詞

  (1) if

  I would have talked to him if I'd thought of it. 如果我想到了，我就和他談了。

  If she went, would you go too? 如果她去，你也會去嗎?

  (2) unless

  I shouldn't dream of going unless you wanted me. 我不會去，除非你要我去。

  You will fail unless you work hard. 如果你不用功學習，你會不及格的。

  (3) supposing

  Supposing she doesn't come, what shall we do? 要是她不來，我們怎么辦?

  Supposing he can't come, who will do the work? 假使他不能來，這工作誰做?

  (4) 條件狀語從句還可有其他的形式

  Brant will do the work providing you pay him. 如果你能付費，布蘭特可以做這工作。

  As long as you're happy, it doesn't matter what you do. 只要你高興，你做什么都沒關系。

  In case I forget, please remind me about it. 如果我忘了，請提醒我。

  注意

  (1) 有些條件狀語從句中也可省略某些成分或改成短語。如：

  If necessary, ring me at home. 如果有必要，可以打電話到我家找我。

  If in doubt, ask at your local library. 若有疑問，你可向當地圖書館咨詢。

  He would never do this unless compelled. 他絕不會做這事，除非是被迫如此。

  In case of fire, ring the bell. 如有火災，按鈴。

  (2) 有些狀語從句介于條件狀語從句與讓步狀語從句之間。如：

  The moon is a moon still whether it shines or not. 月亮總是月亮，不管它亮不亮。

  It has the same result whichever way you do it. 不管你怎么做，結果都一樣。

  Whoever you are, you can't pass this way. 不管你是誰，你不能從這兒過去。

  引導目的狀語從句的連詞

  (1) in order that

  In order that you may create such a picture, you have to possess certain artistic weapons. 創作這樣的畫，你得具有某些藝術手法。

  I have come all the way from Vienna in order that you should thoroughly understand me. 我這么遠從維也納來，為的是讓你徹底了解我。

  (2) so that

  So that we can arrive there on time, we should start off early. 為了按時趕到那里，我們必須早出發。

  Caspar wore a mask so that no one should recognize him. 卡斯帕戴了一個口罩，以至于沒人能認出他。

  (3) so

  I'll show you so you can see how it's done. 我將做給你看，以便讓你知道應怎樣干。

  I packed him a little food so he wouldn't get hungry. 我包了一點食物給他，以免他挨餓。

  (4) that

  They have died that liberty might live. 他們倒下了，為的是自由能長存。

  She wanted tea ready at six that she could be out by eight. 她要在6點鐘把下午茶準備好，以便她8點鐘能出去。

  (5) lest，for fear和in case也可引起目的狀語從句

  I'll be kind to her lest she decides to leave me. 我要好好待她，以免她決定離開我。

  Shut the window for fear that it may rain. 把窗子關好，以防下雨。

  I shall sit up for a time, in case I'm wanted. 我暫時不睡，以防需要我。

  注意這類從句有時可改為某種短語。如：

  Go in quietly so as not to wake the baby. 悄悄走進去，以免把寶寶吵醒。

  The wall was built along the river in case of floods. 沿江筑了堤壩，以防有洪水。

  引導結果狀語從句的連詞

  (1) so...that

  It was so dark that they couldn't see each other's faces. 天是那樣黑以至于他們看不見彼此的臉。

  So bright was the moon that the flowers were bright as by day. 月亮是那樣亮。花兒就像在白天那樣鮮艷。

  (2) such...that

  It gave him such a shock that his face turned white. 這使他那樣震驚，以至于他的臉都變白了。

  His idea was such a good one that we all agreed to use it. 他的想法是那樣好，我們都決定采用。

  (3) so that引導結果狀語從句，表示“因此”。

  One of her lungs is infected a little so that she has to rest. 她的一葉肺有點感染，因此她得休息。

  My pencil fell under my desk, so that I couldn't see it. 我的鉛筆掉到書桌下面了，因此我看不到它。

  (4) so引導結果狀語從句，表示“所以”“因此”。

  The play began at eight, so they must dine at seven. 戲8點開，所以他們必須在7點吃飯。

  You told me to do it (and) so I did it. 你讓我這樣做，因此我這樣做了。

  注意：so that還可用另一種方式引起結果狀語從句。如：

  His heart beat so that he could hardly breathe. 他的心跳得如此厲害以至于都喘不過氣了。 Explain it so that a 10-year-old child could understand it. 解釋成這樣，使10歲的孩子都能聽懂。

  (5) otherwise，or else，or，else引起的分句也表示一種結果。

  Give me back my money, otherwise I'll ring the police. 把錢還給我，否則我就給警察打電話了。 Run or else you'll be late. 快跑，要不你就會遲到了。

  引導原因狀語從句的連詞

  (1) because

  Cheney distrusted me because I was new. 切尼不信任我，因為我是新來的。

  You only do it because you have to. 你這樣做是不得已。

  (2) as

  As all the seats were full, he stood up. 由于所有座位都有了人，他就站了起來。

  We don't know what to do as we are not his parents. 我們不知該怎么辦，因為我們不是他的父母。

  (3) since

  Since we've no money, we can't buy it. 由于我們沒錢，我們無法購買它。

  Since you are going, I will go too. 既然你去，我也去。

  (4) seeing(that)，considering(that)，now that等詞也可引起表示原因的從句

  Seeing(that) she's lawfully old enough to get married, I don't see how we could stop her. 既然她已到了法定結婚的年齡，我不知道我們怎樣能阻止她。

  Considering he's only been learning English a year, he speaks it very well. 鑒于他才學了一年的英語，他英語講得很好了。

  Now that you have come, you may as well stay. 你既然來了，不妨留下。

  (5) 常見的引導原因狀語從句的形容詞有： annoyed, ashamed, content, delighted, glad, hurt, pleased, satisfied, sorry, surprised等

  I'm glad you're back. 你回來了我很高興。

  I'm sorry I haven't done as much as I should. 很抱歉，我做得很不夠。

  引導讓步狀語從句的連詞

  引導讓步狀語從句的連詞主要有although，though，even though / if，while等。如：

  (1) although

  They are generous although they are poor. 盡管他們很窮卻很大方。

  Although still young, he is going very grey. 盡管他還年輕，他的頭發卻已變得灰白了。

  (2) though

  The speech is good，though it could be better. 這次演講不錯，雖然還可以再好一點。

  (3) even though

  Even though it's hard work, I enjoyed it. 雖然工作艱苦，我還是很喜歡。

  Ben went out, even though it was raining. 盡管在下雨，本還是出去了。

  (4) even if

  He felt all this，even if he didn't find phrases to express it. 這一切他都感覺到了，盡管他找不出言語來表達。

  They'll stand by you, even if you don't succeed. 即使你不成功，他們也會支持你。

  (5) while

  While we don't agree, we continue to be friends. 盡管我們意見不同，我們還是朋友。While I sympathize, I can't really do very much to help. 雖然我同情，我卻不能幫什么忙。

  (6) 讓步狀語從句也可以用as，however等詞來引導。

  (7) 由though，although等引導的狀語從句可改為短語。

  The girl, though plain, had a good, kind face. 這姑娘雖說不漂亮，卻有一張和藹善良的臉。

  I went on talking, though continually interrupted by Dussel. 盡管不斷被杜塞爾打斷，但我還繼續談著。

  Ivan was very lovable although not very tidy. 伊凡很可愛，盡管不太整潔。

  引導方式狀語從句的連詞

  引導方式狀語從句的連詞主要有as，like，as if，as though。如：

  (1) as

  I have changed it as you suggest. 我按照你的建議作了改變。

  As you know, she wasn't much good at letter-writing. 正如你知道的，她不善于寫信。 (2) like

  Do it like he does. 像他那樣做。

  Jerry doesn't speak French like I speak it. 杰瑞講法語的方式和我的不一樣。

  (3) as if

  I love you as if you were my son. 我愛你就像你是我的兒子一樣。

  Grace looked a bit queer, as if she knew something. 格瑞絲顯得有些古怪，仿佛她知道什么似的。

  (4) as though

  Jason paused as though he found a difficulty. 詹森停了停，仿佛他遇到什么困難似的。Hannah closed her eyes as though she were too tired. 漢娜閉上眼睛，好像她也累了似的。

  有些從句可以改為短語。如：

  The boy started as if awakened from some dream. 這男孩一驚，仿佛從夢中驚醒似的。

  When she had finished, she waited as though for a reply. 她講完之后等了等，仿佛是在等候回答似的。

  引導地點狀語從句的連詞

  引導地點狀語從句的連詞主要有where，wherever，everywhere。如：

  I live where there are mountains. 我住在多山的地方。

  I will find her wherever she may be. 不管她在哪里，我都要找到她。

  Everywhere I go, I find the same thing. 不管我到哪里，我都遇到同樣的情況。

  引導比較狀語從句的連詞

  引導比較狀語從句的連詞主要是than和as。如：

  It is easier than I thought. 它比我想象的容易。

  I myself felt as bad as he did. 我自己也和他一樣難受。

  They are as firm as one could expect. 他們就像大家期望的那樣堅定。
